Equicare Academy Purpose

EquiCare Academy is dedicated to advancing health justice. We’re here to address the deep-rooted inequities that have made health a privilege for too many, when it should be a basic right for all. As poverty rises and racial disparities persist, our commitment remains strong: to build a future where health equity is not just an ideal but a shared expectation.

At EquiCare, we take a people-centered approach to education—one that blends academic rigor with real-world insight. Our programs empower a diverse community of changemakers—health professionals, policy thinkers, college students, and community leaders—to drive meaningful progress in their fields and communities.

We believe education is more than learning—it’s a path to action. With over 36 million Americans living in poverty, we know that small steps aren’t enough. That’s why we aim for lasting transformation, not just surface-level change. At EquiCare, equity is at the heart of everything we do—and we welcome all who are ready to make a difference.

Founded by Alexander Major, a former healthcare executive and current college educator, our organization embodies his lifelong commitment to healthcare advocacy.

Alexander, a Brooklyn & Queens native, honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He received his initial medical/surgical training at Shepard Air Force Base in Texas and was stationed at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California. He also spent over five years at the U.S. Air Force Regional Medical Center in Wiesbaden, Germany.

During his military tenure, Alexander cultivated a deep-seated passion for exemplary medical care and witnessed its profound impact on individuals’ well-being. Post-military service, he gained experience working in various hospitals in and around New York City.

As the founder of EquiCare Academy, Alexander has relentlessly pursued healthcare equity. He strives to heighten awareness of healthcare disparities and advocates for policies that foster greater equity within the healthcare system.

Over his 40-year career span, Alexander’s advocacy and contributions to the healthcare sector have garnered widespread recognition. His relentless efforts to advance healthcare equity have earned him numerous accolades.
